The newspaper declines to state J 8 the source of its information but 8 declares that the “motive for the 8 crime was mad Jealousy which was 8 aroused when the director trans 8 ferred his friendship to Mary 8 Miles Minter, motion picture ac 8 tress.’’ . 8 The story goes on to state that 8 the un-named society woman was 8 an almost daily visitor at the Tay lor home until shortly before the murder. »■ / A few minutes after Lawrence Ritsinger, a lo- cal youth, is alleged to have sold a gallon of moonshine to a thirsty customer last night, a group of officers pounc- ed‘ on him and carted him away to the county Jail at Jacksonville on a charge of possession and sale of intoxicating liquor. Ritsinger is said to have acted as commission man between the moon- shiner and the customer. The customer, it is al- leged paid Ritsinger >13 for the gallon, while the moonshiner got $10, and Ritsinger $3 for making the sale. Chisum Coes to Federal PORTLAND, Ore., March 27 Penitentiary for Term — (U.P.)— Mrs. Gordon Mac of Five Years PORTLAND, Ore., March 27— (U.P.)— Bland Chisum. aged 47, was today sentenced to five years in McNeil Island federal prison by Federal Judge Wbl'vertoit after he had Pleaded guilty to a charge of whit« slavery. Chisum admitted transporting a 15-year-old girl froha Jonesboro, Ark., to Ashland, Ore., for im moral purposes. The girl was a cousin of Chisum’s wife. The ' girl was picked up in Ashland and Chisum was arrested at Weed, Cal. Cracken of Ashland was elected a state regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution at the annual meeting here today Qn the fir«^ ballot Mrs. Mac Cracken was tied with Mrs. E. G. LEGION BOX SOCIAL IS PLEASING EVENT Ex-Service Men and Wives Have Enjorable Party . at Civic Clubhouse Ex-service men of Ashland en joyed a box social at the Civic Clubhouse last night, with a dance following the feasts which the men found in the boxes they purchosed during the auction sale. • With dozens of beautiful boxes, some "dolled up" Ilka Christmas packages, Dr. C. E. Shinn, with J. E. Enders and Carl Loveland as assistants, auc tioned off the boxes. There was a lively demand for them and all brought good prices, al though the men stated aftor they had eaten that the prices paid were far too low consider ing the sumptuous banquet in side each box. After this Carl Loveland and his orchestra furnished music dancing continuing until a late hour. Interspersed between the dances were several features, in cluding an enjoyable Charleston exhibition by Carl Loveland. This is only one of many social and entertainment fea tures which the Legion has planned for this year.
